BB39 Homeward Bound

He threw his bag on the couch and called out “Honey, I’m home!”

Only the soft hum of ventilation answered him, as always.  He activated the comms, not to communicate but to fill the room with the semblance of companionship.  “Ah hates this.”

“Some say a man’s home is his castle. For others it is wherever they lay their hat. The concept is just as nebulous in the New Eden sandbox.

In EVE Online, what does the concept of “home” mean to you?” ~BlogBanter39

He looked around the spartan room and moved into the kitchen where he began to cook.  “Not that it aint a place to lay down and rest but dis sure as hell aint home.”  Chopped vegetables were scooped into the pot.  “But den, when was the last time I had a home?”

He keyed some controls and called up a map of where he had been.

The bright lights showed where he spent the most time.  Cat.  Where he had met her.  Since she had died that anchor to his soul had been released and he wandered once more. He still had a lot of assets there but it was not his home, it was his friends home.  He adjusted the heat on the pot and set a lid askew on top of it.

The map showed his new stomping grounds, far far to the south.  But this was not home, not yet, anyways.  A few quick trips shopping and he was beginning to build a stable of ships . . . and lose them almost as quickly.  But he did not yet have a feel for the neighborhood nor did he even know all the nicknames for local spots.  When in a fleet he might be near the last to jump as he puzzled out what h-tac meant.  No, this was not home.

Maybe . . . home wasn’t a place.  Maybe it was the people where you were.  With comms being what they could be home no longer was a geographical entity put a state of mind.  He was with friends when he was in fleets, incursions were home, now and again.  Gallente Hero and Eve Blues were home.  Cat was still home because of the friends there and the welcome he knew he would get anytime he dropped by or called.  New Eden was his home, when he was with friends and it was cold and lonely when they were not about.

Home was not where you laid your hat, it was where you left your heart.

‘A warrior returns home, only to leave to fight battles he has a chance of winning’

Wherever my corp-mates setup a base of operations is where I’ll operate, where I can find enemies to defeat is where I’ll roam.

My base is in essence… it’s where I keep my resources, it’s close(ish) to a major trade hub that what I need I can get, and what I don’t I can sell, but the truth of home is that we are never there… we roam, we fight, we mine, we work.

Home is never where we stay, it’s where we go between actions.

Home is the “Log Out” button. 🙂

Oh you were in Cat too? Just like me before I joined our new corp.
Give it some time Mike, Catch will soon be “home”. Worked for me at least.
Although I miss my friend(s) from our former corp, who prefer to play Tanks at the moment…I hope they will return to Eve.
