and nobody came

They met on the battlefield banner in hand.
They looked out across the vacant land.
And they counted the missing, one upon one,
None upon none.
The war it was over before it begun.

Two little kings playing a game.
They gave a war and nobody came.

Monkees, Zor and Zam lyrics

“Yer kidding.”

“No, it will work!”

“No, no it won’t.”

“It has worked for me before!”

Mike rubbed his hand across his eyes and shook his head.  “Let me get this straight . . . .just so I know I am not imagining it.  Your complete and foolproof war plan is . . .we don’t show up.  In addition you are displeased at me for not being on the voice comms to discuss not showing up.”

“Alliance rules during a wardec are that if you are active in a pod, you are on voice.”

“Hey rube, I have a lovely lady sleeping nearby and I am not waking her to hear me discussing cute kitten images that some alliance mate thought we all just had to see.  What purpose will be served by my being on the voice comms if we are all in stations and boycotting a war?”

“Mutual support.  Camaraderie.  Why did you join this alliance in the first place if not for this?”

“I have been asking myself the same thing.  The people I came on board to be with are conspicuous in their absence.  One of them is now trying to convince me to jump over and join them in a new one.”

“If you are not going to be a part of us not being a part of the war then why haven’t you gone to be a part of that alliance?”

“Wait . . .I have to parse that one for a second.”  Mike sighed and counted slowly to ten.  “Well, I am loath to part ways with a party just because the partition between war and peace has parted and apparently I a a partner of this daft enterprise until the party is over.”  Mike grinned and took a deep breath of air.  “In English . . . I don’t quit when the going gets tough.  Though if you want to throw me out . . . ”

A sleepy voice behind him spoke ” . . . throw you out?  Did you bring crackers to bed again?”

“Oops, gotta go . . . ”

yup, seriously

On a more functional note . . . have you ever had a corp or alliance make requirements that were against your grain or difficult to meet, for one reason or another?  RL  . . . silly little things like family, job, that sort of thing?

I’ve never liked the demands to always be on comms out side of ops. For a start, the moment my kids hear voices coming out of my study they turn up , which spells the end of my EVE session. It is also much easier to ignore inane banter in the corp chat than a droning voice…

Kids make vent even more problematic as some of the players I have interacted with use obscenities as punctuation. Comma? Period? $%&@ no.

The foolproof plan of not showing up may be…uh…partly my fault…yeh…I do think it’s a good idea though.

I take no responsibility for voice comms rules!

Not showing up is fine, avoidance and bait and switch is also fine . . . but the idea of an entire alliance buttoning up for a week or more . . . not on my books as a way to play the game unless the alliances started a market guru teaching us all market pvp.

I’d still love a market guru to help me go in the right direction, so far song li’s podcast and eve uni’s web pages are my gotos (along with Bleys who keeps caoching me to swim but I have yet to get into the water.
